 I bought this....
a halon fire extinguisher (NIB on ebay $80, about $50 under retail). For those who aren't aware, a halon extinguisher is residue free so it won't cover everything in the fire's vicinity with white powder when used. As an aside, halon is a chloroflourohydrocarbon, and by international treaty its manufacture is prohibited. However, halon can be recycled for reuse and supplies existing prior to the treaty can be put in new extinguishers. While sale of halon extinguishers is legal, you may see halotron extinguishers offered as a chloroflourohydrocarbon-free alternative. Halotron also has no residue, but be aware that it has only about 40% of the fire surperessant effectiveness of halon. For example, a 2.5 pound halotron extinguisher may be rated at 2BC, but an equal weight halon extinguisher will carry a 5BC rating. You will probably get much more bang for your buck with halon.
